Viruses…!!! How Come Viruses?

Why, Updates Are So Important?

Do you know what a hole/flaw in computer security is?

Source: Wikipedia
In computer security, the term vulnerability is applied to a weakness in a system which allows an attacker to violate the integrity of that system. Vulnerabilities may result from weak passwords, software bugs, a computer virus or other malware, a script code injection, a SQL injection or misconfiguration.

The best image I can give you to understand the meaning of a hole in a computer security is this;

Caption: Seal = Updated – Vermin = Virus

Let say you live in a house with a basement or in an apartment that found at the street level (in the basement). Look the wall in front of you and imagine you have a crack/hole in your wall.

In this hole there is a possibility to find nothing if you’re lucky or vermin if you are less fortunate!

If there is nothing you are lucky, but you must seal the gap to avoid having the vermin that could be find everywhere in your house. Otherwise you will call your landlord to seal this vulnerability in the wall so that you do not end up with the vermin in your apartment.

Until now, you always follow me? Begin to see my point quietly?

Now, you are the unlucky to be found with a hole and you have not sealed in time to avoid finding your house with vermin!

That same vermin, is now everywhere where it can accessed and it does some damage that is likely to cost you a lot of money if you do not seal it as soon as possible…

For your house/apartment or PC, it’s the same issue, but the damage will be worst in your PC if you do nothing!

So, here I am talking about vermin that damages your home and it’s inoffensive for your personal information but still not good at all for your home or apartment.

Now, if we transfer that same vermin in your PC which become a malware or a virus…

This is not just a vermin that damages only the foundations of your house but, a malware which is PROGRAMMED to either take your personal information and hurt you baddly or totally  take the commends of your PC!!

The updates of your operating system or other programs/software (including the protection ones) of your PC are available to you FREE so that you won’t end up with the vermin/malware.

The kind of malware you might find in your PC, in my opinion, is the most dangerous one which called; worm, because if you have a worm in your PC, it is INEVITABLE, when you transfer a file either by your messenger or via email, the worm will be transfered with the file and, automaticly your contacts contract also the worm and the chain continues…

I come back with the 5 statements of my last post

1. You receive more spam

2. You had one or more, viruses and/or Spy (The fact of having one is too many!)

3. You had the unintended advertising (Popup ads when you are on the net)

4. You have been Hacked…

5. Your PC is increasingly slow…

I’m sure that most of you will answer me positively
to at least two of these five statements…! ;o)

You do your updates and you still find yourself in one of these statements? So…

Are you downloading files from your friends?

Your friends, do they do their updates?

Are you scanning, with your anti-virus, the files you download from your friends? NO!!!!!

By the way, MSN is the worst messenger to end up with viruses or being hacked!

Want to know how to avoid this? Watch this video where you will learn how to do it and it will only takes a few seconds of your time or a few minutes depends on what you’ve downloaded!

The video is in French, but we said that an image worth a thousand words… Sorry guys, I didn’t have time to do it in English!

You’re in a hurry or too lazy to check your new file? I don’t want to be rude but, live with your virus and most importantly, do not complain that your PC is found in one of the five statements mentioned above!

Are you doing a scan to your PC with your anti-virus to, at least, once a week?

Do not wait until your anti-virus tells you that there is a virus in your PC! Just do a scan that’s it that’s all!

There are viruses that can pass throught your security software without being detected, if you do not scan at least once a week, and don’t do your updates of your security software, how you want it find new viruses in your PC?

Updating your protection software is, also, to place in is database the new virus that is found on the net, after your last update!

Again, in my last post I mentioned that in 2007 there were over 500 000 new malware. We are in 2009, don’t imagine there is less malware, it is not true, and there will be even more if people do not pay attention to what they do on the net and especially if they are not updated!

There Are People Who Are Paid To Do Virus!!

I also mentioned in my last post, this:

I do not want to scare you, but… Be More Careful!

All of you, who have a computer which is running under Microsoft/Windows or a programs/software from Microsoft/Windows…

As: MSN – Windows Live – Hotmail – Outlook – Office – Internet Explorer – etc.

You are all likely to get one or several viruses and/or being hack!

Even, if it’s the best protection software that you have…

There Is None That Does Protect 100%!!

I will not copy/paste all the text but, either you had paid or not paid for your software protection, they have the same database of virus that is on the net

PLEASE

For your safety and for the security of your contacts, do your updates!

Do you find that my subjects always revolve around the same phenomenon?

And, no matter what you do on the net, you’re likely to end up with viruses or being hack?

This means that…

We Are All RESPONABLE For What We Do And Leave On The Net!

And I even dare to say that,

There should be a MANDATORY training about internet security for every internet users! In the same way that there is a training and license required to drive a car! I know this is not because a person has a driver license he/she can drive but, that is another debate and it’s not the place for it here!

Or even, once an updating of software on a PC that needs to be done, the user should have no access to the net because it is not safe either for him or for other internet users.

But seriously…

When, was the last time you bought a PC and the salesman has suggested a site, a forum or a blog to find out, information and learn how to protect yourself on the web and/or understand how your PC works?

For those who have had to pay for a technician (either for a non-guaranteed or terminated guaranteed), how did you like your bill?

If you had to pay for a technician, are you sure that he/she did not charge more than it should have?

There is a saying that goes like that…
> Ask and you will receive! <
